Commissioning

Optimize energy systems performance

Commissioning is a quality assurance process that helps ensure building systems are operating as intended and according to the owner’s requirements. Born in the ship-building industry and first applied in buildings in the 1980s, commissioning helps buildings save energy by correcting deficiencies in construction, equipment, and maintenance. It is a cost effective means to address excessive energy and construction costs, premature equipment failure, and indoor air quality problems among other things.

Sieben Energy Associates provides commissioning services for both new and existing buildings. New building commissioning is a good practice for all construction projects that focuses on construction and equipment. It is also a requirement for LEED for New Construction (LEED NC). Visit our LEED NC page for more information.

Existing building commissioning is geared toward changes in operations and maintenance and typically identifies low and no cost areas of improvements. Re-commissioning, retro-commissioning, and monitoring-based commissioning all apply to existing buildings. Retro-commissioning and energy auditing are great ways to earn credits and points for LEED for Existing Buildings (LEED EB). Visit our LEED EB page for more information.

We are a Service Provider for a special ComEd program that subsidizes the costs of retro-commissioning. Program participants will receive our professional retro-commissioning services at no charge. Visit the Retro-Commissioning Incentive Program page to learn more about program benefits and requirements.
