Located in downtown Chicago, Sieben Energy Associates (SEA) is an independent consulting firm specializing in energy efficiency and sustainability. Since 1990 we have assisted our local, regional, and national clients reduce their operating costs and meet their sustainability goals through the efficient use of energy in new and existing buildings. We seek an experienced energy engineer to lead and perform the firm’s energy efficiency assignments, develop and manage client relationships, help develop junior engineering talent, and help grow SEA’s existing building services business. 
 

Job Description:

Existing building services consist of energy auditing, retro-commissioning, HVAC and process system evaluations, and LEED EBOM support. SEA assignments include multi-tenant and corporate office buildings, retail facilities, multi-family residential, healthcare, K-12 schools, higher education, warehouse and distribution, restaurants, and manufacturing facilities. The firm has been successful in leveraging local utility incentive programs to drive business growth. Historically SEA has been engaged to perform diagnostic evaluations of buildings to identify operational improvements with rapid payback and high ROI buildings.

Position Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive energy audits to identify and prioritize Energy Conservation Measures (ECM’s)
  • Provide cost analysis of ECM’s and other energy audit data emphasizing our clients’ return on investment
  • Evaluate of building control systems and BAS performance
  • Collect and analyze building system data
  • Analyze mechanical systems and recommend how to optimize performance
  • Review architectural drawings
  • Interact with client staff and client principals
  • Develop written reports that convey technical information in narrative form
  • Participate in a diverse range of demand-side consulting projects
  • Provide leadership and mentoring for engineering staff
  • Assist in marketing and selling energy efficiency services

Required Technical Credentials/Skills

  • 4-year mechanical engineering degree (required); advanced degree preferred
  • Understand and apply mechanical engineering principles for HVAC applications
  • Audit energy consuming equipment and diagnose problems
  • Experienced with energy modeling for new and existing buildings
  • Analyze field data and energy consumption data
  • Understanding of utility rates and utility billing protocols
  • Experience applying energy engineering principles to LEED certification protocols
  • Financial and statistical analysis
  • Familiarity with on-going and/or monitoring-based (data-driven) commissioning practices
  • Familiarity with HVAC control systems

  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully with small teams and to maintain client relationships
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Exceptional problem solving, time management and decision-making skills
  • Self-directed and self-motivated with the ability to succeed in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment
  • Writing of technical and non-technical reports and proposals
  • Active management of multiple projects simultaneously
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access
  • Punctual, reliable, detailed oriented, task oriented, and organized
  • Provide high level client service and direction
  • Desire to learn continuously, work more effectively, and enhance technical and professional skills

Desired Credentials/Skills

  • Familiarity with ComEd commercial customer incentive programs
  • Professional Engineer (PE) preferred
  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM) certification
  • LEED™ AP preferred
  • Experience with Energy Simulation Software such as Visual DOE, DOE 2.1E, eQuest, or equivalent
